Here is a video of James eating his birthday cake. Warning: it's about 12 minutes. I will post other pictures soon.

Gratuitous flour eating photos
A couple of weeks ago I was trying to get some cooking done and had to get creative at keeping James entertained. I fed him his lunch, but that wasn't enough. I gave him snacks, but it still wasn't enough. As you can see by the non-baby items on his high-chair tray, I kept handing him things to entertain him but it still wasn't enough. Finally I scooped a spoonful of flour onto his tray and the party started. I'm sad I didn't get the camera out in time to get a shot of him bending his face down and licking the flour directly from the tray, but I thought these were still pretty good.
Man, he almost got the camera in that last shot. As you can see, he is still absolutely enthralled when we pull out the electronics and he thinks he might get to play with them.

Halloween 2012
Yes, I realize that I'm completely and hopelessly behind on this blog. I have hundreds -perhaps thousands - of photos and videos that I could post and tell you all about, but I figure I'd better start from the present and then go back in time if I get the chance.
For Halloween this year, we dressed James up as Batman.
He had fun crawling/walking around with his cape trailing behind him.
Whenever we put the mittens on his hands, he ran around with his hands balled up in little fists punching everything he came across.
It was really funny, like he knew he was supposed to be a superhero and beat up those bad guys.
One of his recent developments in the past week or two is making a silly face when he gets his picture taken. Seems fairly appropriate for Halloween.
Someone asked me how it was we got him to make his "monster face". The truth is that he started squinting when the red eye reduction light went on, and then he just kept making the face because we were laughing at him so hard and he's a class clown at heart.
We are so grateful every day for our wonderful little miracle boy.
He certainly keeps us on our toes, but we wouldn't give him up for anything!
I hope this lovely autumn finds you all well.

Utah trip for Marjorie Higginson's funeral, May 2012
Obviously this happened a few months ago, but I still hadn't gotten around to uploading photos or posting any updates since then. Tom lost his Grandma Higginson in early May this year, so we made a road trip down to Lehi, Utah to be with the family and attend the services. Everything was really nice and it was good to see family we either don't see very often or in some cases had never met.
James had a difficult time with the road trip, but by the end we were getting pretty good at entertaining him with one of us riding in the back seat, talking to him and helping him eat and play with toys.
James sits patiently while his cousin Lorena tries to mold him to her will. He's not that patient anymore, let me tell you!

Showing off his ability to almost get up on hands and knees and crawl
Funerals are always a lousy reason to get together, but still it was really nice to have an excuse. We were really grateful we were able to be there.

Four months old
James is already 4 months old, and we can hardly believe it. At his checkup about 2 weeks before his 4 month mark he was weighing in at 14lb 7oz and measuring 26.5 inches. He's wearing 6-9 month size clothes and getting more fun to be around every day. Some of his milestones this past month have been:
* Rolling over in both directions, though still not on purpose
* Making crawling motions like an inch worm, and actually moving
* Going to regularly eating cereal every day
* Grabbing his spoon as we're feeding him, as well as grabbing at our bowls and plates. I even caught him shoving his fist into my pasta the other day, trying to grab a bite for himself.
* Fully reaching for toys he wants
* Turning himself 180 degrees while playing on his back (The other night I caught him with his bum stuck up against the side rails of his crib, feet stuck in the air, completely unable to extricate himself. He didn't find the situation as funny as I did)
* Sucking on his toes
* Discovering he likes kissing (James LOVES kissing people on the forehead with his open fishy mouth)
* Holding onto other people's hair/nose/ear/mouth as a handle and not wanting to let go
* Doing much more babbling - more constant, as well as more kinds of sounds. He wants to be a part of every conversation, and he wants to sing along to songs with lyrics as well, though he's silent for instrumental music

3 month smiles
Just ignore the fool I'm making of myself and pay attention to the cute smiles. Please.

Three months old
It's that time again. Okay, it's a few weeks past that time, since he's coming up on four months now, but here we are anyway.
James' milestones this month have been a lot of fun. Here are a few of them:
*eating his first solid food (rice cereal, and a little banana)
*holding his head up on his own
*playing with his toys (and eating them)
*discovering his feet and toes
*sitting up with support
*playing for longer periods of time by himself
*halfway rolling over from his stomach to his back
*halfway rolling over from back to front
First of all here's the latest picture in the Star Trek onesie so you can see how much James has grown this month
James got to visit with his Aunt Abby and cousin Lorena this past month. They all had fun. Lorena was pretty confident in her abilities to take care of a baby - we had to keep a close eye on her because she was a little TOO confident, lol.
This was his first experience eating rice cereal. Once we got him to stop staring at the camera, he realized that he LOVES eating food. He laughed through the entire feeding.
Here's a quick video clip of James trying to roll over.
And now here is a load of other pictures for your viewing enjoyment. Most of them are from my phone so the quality is pretty poor :P
